Jose Ramos is a well-known fixture here in Tooele County, though he is better known as "Taco Man." He began cooking around age 10 with his mom in Texas. If you ask Jose why he chose to be a cook, he answers simply, "I like cooking. I am a cook."
Since starting his taco stand in front of the old Grandma's Tires in 2001, Jose has relocated the stand to several places in the Tooele Valley, including having a restaurant on Main Street in Grantsville. Some locations have had great traffic; others have not. Sometimes Jose was forced to move for various reasons- so he moved. He chooses to see each bump in the road as a great learning experience, and he's not afraid of encountering more bumps. Jose's experience has given him an adventurous spirit and a positive outlook. Every day is a new opportunity. Taco Man's secrets to success are simple: "It's all about the people," he says. "My customers are my friends. My job is to make everyone happy. I tell people 'if you don't like something, tell me. I will fix it for you.' You play with recipes until they are perfect. You never stop learning." Other great tips: Stay consistent with quality and make everything fresh. Taco Man currently has two locations. One on Main Street in Grantsville (in front of Family Dollar); the other behind Maverik in Stansbury. If you aren't sure of his whereabouts, you can find him on Facebook or call him. Taco Man also does catering, special events, and special orders (including tamales $14/dozen). Taco Man (435)228-5076 www.facebook.com/tacomanutah?fref=ts
